Switzerland and the Visa

Kosovo is not an EU/Schengen member, but Kosovar citizens with a biometric passport can enter Schengen countries (including Switzerland) visa-free for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

**Note:** This change took effect in 2024. Always check with the Swiss Embassy for the latest information.

What you need:

• ✅ A valid biometric passport (min. 3 months after your return date)
• ✅ Travel insurance (mandatory)
• ✅ Proof of financial means (≥CHF 100/day)
• ✅ Hotel booking or invitation letter if staying with family

Zürich Airport (ZRH)

ZRH is the third-largest airport in Europe and the main hub of Swiss Airlines. It has three terminals and is connected directly to the city by train.

From ZRH to the center:

• Direct train → 12 minutes, CHF 6.80
• Taxi → CHF 60–80 (avoid!)

Getting Around the City

Zürich has one of the most efficient public transport systems in the world. A daily card (Tageskarte) for CHF 8.80 covers all buses, trams, and trains within zone 1.

Albanians and Kosovars in Zürich

Zürich has the third-largest Albanian community outside Albania and Kosovo (after New York and Brussels). The Aussersihl and Langstrasse neighborhoods are full of Albanian restaurants and family shops.

Currency

Switzerland uses the Swiss Franc (CHF), not the Euro. Current rate: 1 EUR ≈ 0.95 CHF. Debit/credit cards are accepted almost everywhere — you don't need to withdraw much cash.
