The Student Traveler from Pristina

Thousands of Kosovar students study at European universities β€” Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavia. Coming home for the holidays can be expensive if you don't plan well.

The Student Booking Strategy

1. Book Right After the Academic Calendar Is Published

As soon as your university publishes its academic calendar (usually September/October), book your tickets for Christmas, Bajram, and summer. Save up to €80 per ticket by booking 3–4 months ahead.

2. Fly Back Mid-Week (Tuesday – Wednesday)

Weekend flights (Friday – Sunday) are on average €25–40 more expensive. If your academic schedule allows, travel mid-week.

3. Take an Overnight Flight

Night flights (23:00 – 06:00) are often €20–30 cheaper. You'll save on a hotel too!

Student Cards

Reality check: Most airlines don't offer student discounts. The best price comes from booking early, not from a student card.

Luggage β€” A Hidden Cost

Students often travel back with heavy luggage. Always calculate:

  • Air Prishtina: 23 kg baggage included in many fares β€” verify at booking
  • Extra baggage: €20–50 if paid at the airport (noticeably more expensive than online)

Tip: Book extra baggage online no later than 24 hours before the flight β€” usually half the airport price.

Student Groups (Carpooling)

Many Facebook/WhatsApp groups of Kosovar students organize shared trips to/from university cities. Sometimes they even split a cheap return ticket when one student changes plans.
